MBBS in Egypt

200-year-old universities · English-medium

← Back to all countries

First, what even is Egypt?

Egypt is home to some of the oldest medical universities in the world, institutions with over 200 years of teaching history, now opening their doors to Indian medical aspirants.

The reason this is resonating with Indian students

A cost still meaningfully lower than Indian private colleges, strong clinical exposure thanks to high patient volume in government hospitals, and English-medium teaching used for all students, including locals.

So what happens when you're back in India?

Honest version: this is still an emerging pipeline. Publicly available FMGE data is currently thin, only a handful of Egypt graduates have appeared for the exam so far. That's not a red flag on the degree, but it does mean leaning on direct, current information from the university rather than assuming a track record that doesn't yet exist at scale, and starting FMGE prep early is even more important here.

The vibe

Hot, dry summers (up to 40°C), mild winters. Egypt is a conservative society, so cultural and dress norms genuinely matter here - worth an honest, upfront conversation with students and parents.

The information you need, but probably won't hear from anyone

The MBBCh degree carries real historical weight, Cairo University and Ain Shams University have been training doctors for over a century, with globally recognised alumni networks.

And when you're not in class?

The Giza Pyramids. The Sphinx. The Nile River. The Egyptian Museum. Genuinely one of the most historically significant places on Earth to spend your student years.
